School Development Plan
2025 - 2026
November update
At The British School of Gran Canaria, our School Development Plan guides our long-term commitment to providing an exceptional British education, nurturing confident learners, and supporting every child’s wellbeing. The 2025–26 priorities focus on strengthening teaching, enhancing support systems, and broadening the opportunities available to our students. Below is an overview of the key developments achieved so far this year, and there is also a link to the full monitoring table.
Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Raising the quality of classroom practice remains central to our work. In Secondary, we have launched the Calm Classrooms initiative and a new Positive Behaviour Policy, ensuring calm, purposeful learning environments. All teachers have taken part in specialist behaviour training, peer observations, and reflective coaching cycles to embed consistent expectations.
In Primary, Talk4Writing is now firmly established, with clear frameworks for planning, evidence and assessment leading to improved writing quality across all year groups. Staff in both sectors are also receiving training in the Davis Learning Strategies, supporting neurodiverse learners with structured, multisensory approaches.
We are expanding our use of progress data to ensure timely intervention. A new data management system (SISRA) is being prepared for full launch in 2026, allowing leaders and teachers to track and respond to student performance more effectively.
Strengthened Learning Support
Learning Support systems have been aligned across both campuses with updated registers, consistent procedures, and regular coordination between teams. Our partnership with Vohale specialists is now fully embedded, providing additional targeted support for identified learners.
Health, Wellbeing and Sport
Promoting active, healthy lifestyles remains a key priority. Structured active-play sessions, extended sports clubs, increased inter-school competitions and house events all contribute to higher levels of physical activity. Students also benefit from a broadening programme of trips and residential experiences, including international sports tournaments and curriculum-linked visits.
Wellbeing is supported through tutor check-ins, the YouHQ digital platform, student-led wellbeing ambassadors, and targeted workshops. Online safety measures have been strengthened through updated policies, new digital literacy content and the introduction of parental control tools.
Community and Communication
We continue to deepen engagement with families through additional parent-teacher meetings, informative workshops, improved reporting systems and frequent newsletters celebrating student achievement. Our communication strategy, including social media, highlights the breadth of learning and opportunities across the school.
Our School Development Plan is a living document that drives improvement, ensures accountability, and reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence. Every development is guided by one aim: to provide the very best education and personal growth opportunities for every student at BSGC.
