Speed-Painting Contest
On Saturday 14ᵗʰ November 2020, I participated in the Mar de Velas speed-painting contest.
I was participant number 4, the youngest in the contest. Entrants had to paint a maritime-related picture using various techniques such as oil, acrylics, watercolours, pastel, and mixed.
I chose to do mine in watercolours as I have been working with them in school art projects. They made the picture look fluid. I painted an area of the marina live.
I decided to enter the contest to practise quick and situational drawing. There were a total of 12 prizes awarded by a professional jury and a popular voting award collating online public votes. I was among the 12 finalists and won the Luján Pérez School of Art youth award.
With 342 points, I was the second most popular artist in the public vote. My work will be exhibited, along with the others, at the Varadero Maritime Club, the Elder Museum, and El Muelle shopping centre. The whole experience has been an unforgettable one.
