School Development Plan

2023 - 2024

Driving School Improvement at BSGC

At The British School of Gran Canaria, the 2023–24 school year was a time of reflection, growth, and achievement. Our School Development Plan focused on improving teaching, strengthening English learning, supporting student wellbeing, and deepening connections within our school community.

Teachers led their own professional enquiries to enhance classroom practice, supported by ongoing training, collaboration, and more than 750 classroom visits to recognise and share best practice.

In Primary, we launched a new English curriculum, aligned across both campuses, ensuring that every child makes steady progress in reading and writing. Regular assessment and targeted support helped all learners move forward with confidence.

Across the school, new assessment tools such as CAT4 and PASS provided teachers with greater insight into students’ strengths, potential, and wellbeing. Our Learning Support systems were reinforced with new pupil passports, shared registers, and closer collaboration with external specialists.

Health and wellbeing continued to be a priority, with an expanded PE curriculum, new sports partnerships, and record levels of student participation. From padel and tennis to dance and athletics, our students demonstrated enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination.

We also strengthened our connections with families through open-door events, newsletters, and enhanced communication. The return of the Year 6 UK trip and joint activities between campuses helped to foster confidence and a sense of belonging.

Together, these achievements reflect our shared commitment to excellence, care, and community.
