School Development Plan

2024 - 2025

Driving School Improvement at BSGC

At The British School of Gran Canaria, we are committed to continuous development that supports excellent teaching and learning for every student. During 2024-25, significant progress was made within the three key areas of our School Development Plan: Advancing Teaching and Learning; Enriching Student Life; and Building Connections.

High-Quality Teaching, English, Data & Learning Support

Teachers developed personalised enquiry action plans to extend pedagogy, supported by Rosenshine bulletins, peer observation, and INSET. Over 750 learning walks and 100 follow-ups reinforced best practice.

AI training, policy, and leadership role established, alongside curriculum mapping, baseline testing, and assessment reform in Primary.

CAT4 and PASS data introduced across phases to inform targeted interventions, with initiatives such as Calm Classrooms and workshops enhancing learning culture.

Learning Support procedures were standardised across campuses, with pupil passports, registers, and closer work with external specialists, ensuring consistent provision and planning for a whole-school coordinator.

PE, Extra-Curricular, Wellbeing, Online Safety & Global Citizenship

Primary PE curriculum embedded with staff surveys guiding development. Expanded PE pathways included padel, weight training, and record cohorts for iGCSE and A Level.

Sports offer significantly grew with new clubs (tennis, pickleball, dance) and over 1,200 pupils participation opportunities across 32 tournaments.

Wellbeing strengthened through workshops, campaigns, and appointment of dedicated coordinators, with YouHQ piloted for student monitoring.

Online safety provision advanced via staff training, new curriculum resources, and student/parent workshops.

Global citizenship highlighted through environmental action, charity fundraising, and international awareness projects, embedding responsibility and compassion across the school.

Primary–Secondary Transition, Parent Communication & Publicity

Secondary staff increased presence with Year 6 students at both campuses, with the UK trip reinstated as a shared transitional experience.

Parent-school partnership grew through more information evenings, Open Doors consultations, annual questionnaires, and opportunities for parents to sample school lunches.

Regular communication strengthened with a monthly newsletter, while a refreshed social media strategy and promotional campaigns (including videos and flyers) enhanced visibility of BSGC’s values, achievements, and unique strengths.
