South School News - Parent & Toddler Group, Road Safety, Student Council and Christmas at South Gallery

Parent & Toddler group in the South School

Last November saw the start of a twice weekly parent & toddler group in the Maspalomas School. Several mums plus babies and toddlers now meet from 9:00 until 11:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This gives the children a chance to play alongside other children and the adults a chance to escape from the housework and have coffee and a chat to other mums! Feedback from parents has been very positive and anyone is welcome to join our group wether or not they have a child in the school.

Christmas at Tafira (Infants)

24jan2013-christmas-tafira-infantsMany thanks to all the parents for the wonderful costumes and to the Year 2 parents for supporting their children with the learning of their words for the Christmas production of 'Off We Go...'. We are all incredibly proud of the children; they put on a spectacular performance of the Nativity Story which had a total of fourteen old and new Christmas carols. To learn this amount of words was quite an achievement! We hope you enjoyed the performance as much as we did! We hope you all had a very Happy Christmas and we wish you a Happy New Year!

Mr Wilson, Miss Fay, Mr Antonio, Miss Sandra, Miss Kay, Miss Rachel, Miss Karen , Miss Bland and Miss Caroline.

Football - Oakley vs. BSGC

Yr 3 & 4 Match Report

BSGC 4-4 Oakley

The year 3 & 4 missed out on a deserved victory over their Oakley counterparts with an unfortunate last minute goal for Oakley in a keenly contested match.

The first half saw both teams cancelling each other out as they went up the tunnel at half time tied at 0-0.

The game then burst into life in the 2nd half with the BSGC racing into a 3-0 lead. Goals by José, Alberto and Ian looked to have put the home team well on their way to victory although Oakley pulled one back immediately. The three goal advantage was soon restored however, when Ian fired home again to make it 4-1.

Two goals in the space of two minutes brought Oakley right back into the game at 4-3 and set up a grandstand finish to the match. Right on the full time whistle a melee in the BSGC penalty area ended up with the ball in the back of the net much to the disappointment of the BSGC team. A thrilling end to a thrilling match!

Well done to all involved.

Yr 5 & 6 Match Report

BSGC 5-0 Oakley

The year 5 & 6 team continued their incredible start to the season by making it 4 wins from their first 4 matches. This time it was Oakley who succumbed to the crisp, sharp passing and lethal finishing of the young BSGC players.

The game started at a high tempo with both teams eager to exert their authority on the match. Midway through the 1st half it was the home team who got their noses in front when a sweeping passing move from the back found Antidio in space on the left wing. The midfield maestro looked up, took aim, and fired home a beautiful shot. Right on the stroke of half time Alvaro doubled BSGC´s advantage when he found himself in the right place at the right time to knock home a parried shot by the Oakley keeper.

The 2nd half took care of itself with wave after wave of attack from the hosts. A clear handball in the Oakley box gave Ruben the chance to seal the victory from the penalty spot. The youngster stepped up confidently to dispatch the penalty low to the keeper´s right. Although Oakley rallied to find a way back into the match they found home goalie Jae Min in inspired form. A late flurry saw Ander volley in the fourth follow by ´the predator´ Alvaro putting the icing on the cake by stabbing in his 2nd, and BSGC´s 5th goal, of the afternoon.

The boys now head into the winter break full of confidence and eager to get back playing in the New Year!
