Red sky at night, fire alight

18mar2019-theaterOn Wednesday 13th March, Year 9 students enjoyed an unforgettable experience. The enigmatic book La noche de fuego by Francisco J. Quevedo, which we read in class, came to life after arriving at our first destination: the Pérez Galdós Theatre. The author was waiting for us, and he very kindly answered all the questions that we bombarded him with. His charisma and his unexpected answers surprised us as we learnt so many secrets of the museum which were hidden between the book's lines.

After this enlightening question-and-answer session, we went up on the theatre's roof and enjoyed views of the city which contained even more surprises (including a film production!). Next we stopped off at some locations from the book where traces of the characters could still be found, before the day out concluded at Benito Pérez Galdós house-museum, which was full of the memories and belongings of the celebrated Canarian author. He's considered Canarian literature's finest writer, with the pages of his novels dripping with social realism. Pérez Galdós is our very own Charles Dickens, a Spanish Leo Tolstoy even.
