On Thursday 19th October, the student council in Tafira decided to raise funds for International Breast Cancer Awareness day. Although still one of the lowest rates in Europe, it is estimated that 27000 women in Spain will be affected by breast cancer this year; a rise of 15% in recent times due to changes in life expectancy and population demographic.
The theme of the day was 'Wear It Pink', whereby anyone could add a flash of pink to their school uniform to create awareness and show their support. The children also arranged a day of fun break time activities including a photo booth, face painting, selling ribbons and bracelets, and holding a 'Just Dance' party. In addition, the council also organised a Diwali cake sale, and kindly donated the proceeds to this cause.
Thanks to the generous efforts of our school community, the children raised an amazing 553€, which will be used by the nominated charity to provide medical research, screening, education and familial support.
